U.S. VETERAN FINDS Enthusiasm FOR COSMETOLOGY DURING MILITARY SERVICE

Every hairstylist can remember the moment they became intrigued with hair and also the adoration for creativity that it inspires. The storyplot was not different for U.S. Marine Corps veteran Kristyl Rodrigues who discovered her desire for hair while enrolled at Bellus Academy’s school of cosmetology in Poway, California. There Kristyl was studying cosmetology and pursuing a specialist beauty education. In their story, there’s a valuable message that can be shared. “It doesn’t matter in which you begin or how you begin. I want to have the ability to spark that passion into people where we’re causeing this to be industry 10 times better, we’re learning from our history and we’re carrying on that legacy,” shared Kristyl. Recommendations her story.

The Beginning: Inspiration Can Strike Anywhere
Kristyl joined the Marine Corps in 2014 and it was enlisted at the age of 19. Her first duty station was at Okinawa, Japan, followed by an area operation in Korea. Weekly during Kristyl’s amount of time in Korea, a barber would go to the site and present haircuts to the Marines. However, this happened: “I what food was in a tent doing my personal hair,” shares Kristyl. “I would certainly do shape ups and line ups for myself, nothing too crazy, after i had a Marine Sergeant reach me and have me for any haircut. I’d never cut anybody’s hair before however i jumped directly into it anf the husband wound up loving it…and with his outreach and leadership, literally the following day, I had 13 Marines lined up for me personally.”

This is actually the first moment that Kristyl considered barbering like a future career-she concluded on charging $5 a haircut and that could it have been. Having a strong intrinsic motivation and entrepreneurial spirit, she worked overnight shifts on guard duty from 12a.m. to 8a.m., then cut hair throughout the days. What Kristyl learned was profound: Hairdressers touch more hearts than heads and every time you service a customer, there’s impact.

The Impact of A Haircut
“As a Marine, the factors for appearance are at an all-time high. The uniform must be squared away and ironed. Everything should be flush, measured properly-there’s a lot of awareness of detail,” shares Kristyl. “I was taking a look at Marines from top to bottom. It tore up me because we’re the best possible people on this nation so we have to be travelling therefore. That’s the location where the impact produce and heart originated, and I wanted to be able to transmit that through my hands to the people around me…and have them walk around feeling proud and good from head to feet, and representing this nation consequently.”

Similarities In Service: Military & Barbering
After getting back from service, Kristyl asked herself what are the next challenge and chapter in their own life will be. That’s when she made a decision to pursue her education as being a barber at Bellus Academy. Studying under her background looking forward, she found many similarities in their service and becoming a barber.
