Which people counting technology is right for you?
If you are a new comer to retail people counting then one from the first questions you may be wondering is which technology do i need to be utilizing?
You will find three main forms of technologies; beams, thermal and video. Each have their own benefits and weaknesses depending on the environment these are being set up in.
Beam Counters – Will often be battery operated and thus designed for short-run use. They may be an easy task to install and remove, but also prone to become damaged and field of view blocked. They may be unable to count people walking with an entrance side-by-side and as a consequence will undercount.
Thermal Cameras – Infra-red devices such as the IRISYS cameras will be the most in-demand retail analytics in the world. These units are IP enabled and most one unit may be linked together for wide entrances. Accuracy levels are extremely good.
Camcorders – Come as single or dual vision IP enabled devices. The one view cameras are often less accurate. Overall the recording items are more expense than thermal cameras. The dual-view cameras are as accurate because thermal devices in many cases.
