Have you got Smartphone Addiction?

At times it seems like the whole planet is enslaved by their smartphones!

You cannot walk one city block without encountering someone, and much more often lots of people, wanting to text and walk, usually badly.


Despite mass awareness, legislative change and police clamp downs you are unable to commute home without passing those with their phones within their hand. These people are ready to risk their lives, other’s lives and at a nominal amount the home damage of an accident rather than put the smartphone away.

Head to any busy restaurant and you’ll view a number of individuals on their own devices and many more those with their devices sitting just waiting to get acquired at the hint of your email, text or call! Don’t they will wish to talk to their fellow diners?

Visit the average work meeting and get visitors to switch off their mobiles and will also be met with awe and dismay. Too frequently you’ll spot meeting “participants” on their own device, answering “important” emails or even more likely texting another meeting “participant” rather than starting the meeting.

When did most of us become very important that people is not “offline” for a few hours?

Just as one cell phone rules in a relationship, the smartphone is particularly dangerous because it doesn’t pander to the must be in contact with our friends 24/7 just about all provides throttle 24/7. We’d like no more must wait minutes to listen for the news, or a sports score… our smartphone delivers it to all of us AND even tells us when it arrives!

None of this is rational.

If we made rational decisions then we would schedule time for you to check our email, since it suits with our work.

We might keep in touch with friends, but periodically at lunch or even within the afternoon break.

We might not want to understand the news “as it happens” because we might be focused on the duty taking place, which most times of the week is our obligation.

In meetings we might put the thing away, provide constructive input for the meeting and address other things following the meeting.

We might employ hands-free technology in our cars to dicuss while driving. However our eyes will be traveling and our hands guiding the automobile… not texting our friends.

A rational choice would be to drive our day, to get as productive as you can and to make use of the smartphone being a tool.

Instead… we let our smartphones interrupt us, impact our productivity, hurt our relationships and perhaps kill us, while others, as we drive home.
